Product Description


l This is an accessory used as a cross arm for a line transmission project

l Product model number is FT-CA010

l Poduct designed accoding to AASHTO (American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials) Standard

  • Usage : bear the vertical and horizontal loads of the conductor under the normal condition of not breaking the wire; the tension cross arm is used to bear the vertical and horizontal loads of the conductor, but also bear the tension difference of the conductor; the angle cross arm is used to bear the vertical and horizontal loads of the conductor, and also bear the large unilateral conductor tension.
  • (the poles in some areas are double cross arms) the cross arms are generally installed 200 mm from the top of the pole, the straight cross arms shall be installed at the receiving side, and the cross arms of corner pole, terminal pole and branch pole shall be installed at the pull wire side.
  • According to the stress condition of cross arm, single cross arm is used for straight pole or angle pole below 15 degrees, while double cross arm is used for angle pole, tension pole, terminal pole and branch pole with angle of 15-45 degrees, and cross cross arm is used for angle pole, tension pole, terminal pole and branch pole with angle of more than 45 degrees.

Product Details


Cross arms

– The location of attachment and connection devices on the shaft considering the vertical direction and angular orientation to the center shall be kept accurate. The accepted tolerance along vertical direction is ±10 mm.

– The diameter of cross arm sections shall not be less than the design values, the positive tolerance shall not exceed +3 mm.

– The length of cross arm shall be within -25 mm & +50 mm.

– The rise of cross arm axis with respect to its theoretical axis shall not exceed ±9 mm per meter.

Erected structure

– The lap length in the slip joints shall be within -15 mm & +50 mm.

– The tolerances in total length of shaft will be a function of tolerances of the shaft length & lap length in ship joints. Anyhow the total shortening of shaft length shall not exceed 0.25 percent of shaft

height.

Shop Erection

Each of pole structures shall be completely shop assembled to prove ease of assembling and compliance of assembled structure with specified tolerances.

The segments of shaft which are successfully slip jointed, shall be match marked for future easy field erection.

The force needed to attain the specified lap length in slip joints shall not be less than the weight of upper portions of shaft joint, including the weight of cross arms & the maximum vertical loads of conductors & earth wires.

Extensive care shall be exercised to avoid any damage to fabricated material, especially to their surface coatings, during test assembly.

Surface Coating
General All segments of pole structure shall be hot dip galvanized in conformity with ASTM A123 specification. All internal & external faces of tubular sections, base plates, flange plates, connection bolts and at least the exposed lengths of anchor bolts, shall receive zinc coating by hot dip galvanization.

Surface preparation

The surfaces of base material shall be sufficiently clean, to receive satisfactorily zinc coating. The surface preparation includes following successive steps:

a) Caustic bath in a acid solution to remove excessive oil, paints and grease from the surfaces.

b) Rinsing to wash off the acid residue of previous step.

c) Pickling in a bath containing diluted hydrochloric acid to eliminate mill scale & rust.

Shot or grit blasting may be needed to remove deep rooted mill scale or particles that cannot be moved by pickling. All welds must be cleaned by hand or other blast methods because welding residues are chemically inert in standard pickling solutions. The immersion time & the temperature of the pickling both shall be considered to avoid steel embrittlement due to hydrogen absorption in parent metal.

d) Rinsing to wash of previous step.

e) Pre-fluxing in a hot bath of zinc chloride & ammonium chloride solutions to protect the steel cleaned in previous steps from re- oxidizing when entering into the drier area of zinc bath and also to prohibit the adhesion of zinc oxide which exists in dipping area, to the parent metal thus making it possible for zinc coat to adhere to surface of metal.

f) Furnace drying to eliminate water adhered to metal from previous step and also to heat the metal. This step is required to avoid zinc projections and formation of zinc oxides on metal surfaces once metal is dipped into molten zinc.

g) Zinc coating, which is attained by dipping the metal part into molten zinc bath at 450 oC. The thickness of coating in this process is about

600 to 700 grams per square meters of surfaces.
Inspection In addition to control of galvanizing thickness, uniformity and adherence, non destructive examinations shall be made in weld areas to ensure that there are not toe cracks in welds. These areas include shaft to base plate or base flange connections.
Painting over galvanized surfaces

As the transmission line passes through forests or conservation areas, by the instruction of Employer the Contractor should paint parts of poles or complete poles in such areas, with adequate green paints.

Proper painting system over galvanized surfaces shall be suggested by the manufacturer & its lump sum cost to be quoted in price schedule.

TESTING The pole should be tested by having all of the governing design load cases. Type test should be performed in accordance with ASCE /SEI 48-11 for design of steel transmission pole structures.

Packaging & Shipping


We pack the top and bottom parts of the pole with a mat or straw bale in order to protect it from damage to the galvanized surface that may occur during transportation.

Packaging can also be done according to clients’ requirements.
